Caffe Americano or simply Americano my favourite at the moment. The drink consists of a single or double-shot of espresso combined with between 30 – 470ml of hot water. Served black or with a choice of hot or cold milk. I find it a very flavourable and great way to get my morning.
Cappuccino is a coffee-based drink prepared with espresso, hot milk, and steamed milk foam. I believe Italians say that it should only be drank in the morning but how can something so good be deemed only to be had in the morning.
Caffé Latte is a portion of espresso and steamed milk, the proportions differ but usually 50 steamed milk and 50 textured milk.
The Flat White is prepared differently all over the world but the traditional way the milk is prepared in a manner more similar to that of a caffè latte; the milk is stretched and texturised but is poured freely rather than the froth being held back with a spoon or knife. This results in a thicker density of milk with more froth. My version of a good flat white is made using 2 shots of ristretto.
Ristretto is a very “short” shot of espresso coffee. This makes the “shot” bolder, fuller, with more body and less bitterness and connoisseurs say even a sweet. A double espresso shot is typically around 60 ml , while a double ristretto is typically 45 ml.
Espresso is a concentrated beverage brewed by forcing a small amount of nearly boiling water — about 86 to 95 °C under pressure through finely ground coffee beans. Espresso often has a thicker consistency than coffee brewed by other methods. Espresso is the base for other drinks, such as a latte, cappuccino, macchiato, mocha and Americano.

A cafe mocha is a variant of a caffè latte. It is typically one third espresso and two thirds steamed milk, but a portion of chocolate is added. The chocolate added is traditionally syrup but could be powder.
There are so many more variants of coffee that are made but these are the more popular here in SA. If I try something new I will add it to the list as I experience them.
A beverage derived from brewed coffee beans. Through various manufacturing processes the coffee is dehydrated into the form of powder or granules. Normally hot water is added to these powder or granules and we have instant coffee.
